With the delays and complete lack of information on the base model, I want to push the rumor that the new Alfa Giulia is nothing more than an empty promise to entice investment. We see vaporware constantly in the car industry, however it’s nearly always from overambitious startups. Vaporware from an established (if shaky) manufacturer seems unprecedented, but I could be wrong. Show me some great examples of cars that were promised but never delivered.

Maybe. They’ve done it before.

Also, they may be launching the top-spec version first because it’s more profitable and they want to amortize their investment faster. Kind of like how a lot of companies are doing higher-end “launch edition” models. Time will tell.

I understand pushing the attention grabbing top model at first, but it’s like they don’t have any plans to release a lower end model. That would be a complete flop.

Think of it this way. If they launch the low-volume high-end model first, the line will go slower so the factory will have the time to get the production process right before they have to speed it up when the higher volume models launch.

Alfa hasn’t launched a new RWD sedan in 30 years. When you’re starting over like they are, you do things differently than a volume brand like BMW.

It also makes business sense in the same way that Tesla started with the high-end Model S and X before doing the cheaper Model 3. Production logistics and margins.

Except my guess is, with the delay, the lower-priced models will follow much sooner after the QV.
